The Ravenshoe Visitor Centre is located on the Savannah Way at the gateway to the Atherton Tablelands, so a great place to stop in and enrich your travels. The Centre showcases the town’s early history and the impact of WWII when thousands of soldiers were based in the region. Learn about the diverse fauna and flora of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area and where to see it. Walk through the Nganyaji Centre to discover the rich indigenous culture of the local Jirrbal people, and allow time to enjoy the heritage photographic gallery with stunning images of times past.

Top 10 things to do around the region:
1. Learn about the natural and cultural history of the region at the Ravenshoe Visitor Centre, and pick up all your maps and information.
2. Ravenshoe is Queensland Highest town, so also boasts Queensland’s highest pub and highest road .
3. Visit the Millstream Falls National Park to see Australia’s widest single drop waterfall, and follow the WWII trail to learn about the region’s military history.
4. Swim or picnic at the Little Millstream Falls.
5. Enjoy the local plants and produce at the Tumoulin Country Market on the 4th Sunday of each month, or at Archer Creek market on the 2nd Sunday.
6. There are several WWII historic sites in the region, look out for the Unit Markers along the roadside or pick up a map from the Visitor Centre.
7. Discover Tumoulin State Forest where you can walk, ride or swim! The little known Mackenzie Falls are spectacular, and if exploring early or late in the day, look out for the Yellow-bellied Glider which lives in this forest.
8. Explore the many kilometres on foot or mountain bike in the Misty Mountains trails
9. Picnic, camp or fish at Koombooloomba Dam deep in the heart of the Wet Tropics rainforests. On the way, call in at Tully Falls, spectacular after heavy rain.
10. Windy Hill wind farm is Ravenshoe’s very own wind farm. Commissioned in 2000 it is an early example of renewable energy and the viewing platform affords views far and wide across the town.
